bobby-brown-300

Whitney Houston‘s going home service was held today, but it did not go off with out a bit of drama.  The net was a buzz after Bobby Brown was seen leaving and then re-entering Whitney’s funeral.  The Al Sharpton’s initial tweet made folks even more curious to what went down (see below; from the bottom up).  At first it was heard that  his entourage were asked to leave, but Bobby made a statement to exclaim exactly what when down.  At least the way he saw it.   Brown said in a statement that his absence was the result of a mix-up with security.

“My children and I were invited to the funeral of my ex-wife Whitney Houston. We were seated by security and then subsequently asked to move on three separate occasions. I fail to understand why security treated my family this way and continue to ask us and no one else to move. Security then prevented me from attempting to see my daughter Bobbi Kristina. In light of the events, I gave a kiss to the casket of my ex-wife  and departed as I refused to create a scene. My children are completely distraught over the events. This was a day to honor Whitney. I doubt Whitney would have wanted this to occur. I will continue to pay my respects to my ex-wife the best way I know how.”

I’m still mad that he hopped up on a stage instead of being by his daughter’s side after her mother died.  After all he is the only parent she has left.  I know the boy has bills to pay, but d*mn he went on stage and copped sympathy points instead of seeing after his daughter.  Not cool at all!!  Somebody needs to show this boy some act right or told how to do things.  One would think a thing like that would be a natural instinct.

naacp

The full broadcast of the NAACP awards show aired this morning and I must say that I really enjoyed it.  Sanaa and Anthony Mackie hosted the event really well.  Their opening dialogue was really cute as well as funny.  The performances weren’t bad either.  Jennifer Hudson towered over Ne- Yo, but their performance of “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” nothing less than great.  The song was a particular favorite of honoree, George Lucas, who was welcomed to the dark side by Terrance Howard……you had to be there.   Jill Scott’s had folks tapping their feet and nodding their head all over the place with her performance of “I’m So Blessed.”  BTW, Jill took home the award for Outstanding Female Artist.  Yolanda Adams performed as well, and was backed by a full choir while she sang “I Love the Lord,” in honor of the beloved Whitney Houston, who was laid to rest today.   Check your listing to see when it will be aired again; if you missed it.  I saw it on Bravo.   I wasn’t in agreement with some of the choices in winners, but hey.  You already know the Help had the place on lock down and I’m not mad at all.  They did a standup job on that movie.  The complete winners and photos follows:

Aretha Franklin

Aretha Franklin has cancelled her appearance at Whitney Houston’s funeral today due to illness.  Aretha was scheduled to perform the “Greatest Love of All,” according to Forbes she is under the whether.  It is said she will grieve for her God daughter privately at home.

Aretha performed last night in at Radio City Music Hall and  she was reportedly exhausted and overwhelmed afterwards.  She is expected to rest for the day before performing again tonight.  The travel and the back to back performances were a bit too much for Aretha.  It does seem like a lot…….3 performances and traveling!?!?!?

A rep. for Aretha told Forbes: “She would have had to be back in New York by three o’clock at the latest. She feels terrible about it. But she’s got to rest.”

Whitney’s publicist has chosen one person who will be allowed into the sanctuary and who will be streaming a live to everyone. Carolyn Whigham, of the Newark funeral home who is handling preparations for Whitney’s service announced.  Not leaving the fans out, jumbo screens will be set up outside the New Hope Baptist Church in her hometown.

The screens will allow her fans to watch the ceremony. This somewhat contradicts what the police chief announced earlier.  He said that there would be no funeral procession and no public screens set up, at the request of Houston’s family.  I actually heard there wouldn’t be any public memorials. In lieu of a public memorial, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie plans to honor Whitney throughout the state by ordering flags to fly at half-staff on the day of the funeral.

The ceremony, due to begin at noon local time Saturday, is by invitation only. Those that have been invited include, Chaka Khan, Aretha Franklin, Jessie Jackson and the Winans’ family.  Marvin Winans will preside.
