A Message From Tracey Martin and Sybrina Fulton, Trayvon Martin’s Parents

Posted April 11, 2012 10:10 PM By Deirdre B Pride

Hopefully, all that are viewing this post were adamant supporters of the urgency to get George Zimmerman behind bars and signed the petition.  Because if you were, you received this message from Trayvon’s parents, Tracey and Sybrina. If you didn’t sign the petition, please feel free to read the letter that was sent to the Justice for Trayvon supporters.

We are still devastated by the loss of our son Trayvon Martin, and nothing can bring him back. But today, we are heartened to tell you that justice may finally be served for Trayvon.

This evening, Florida State Attorney Angela Corey announced that she will charge George Zimmerman with 2nd degree murder, weeks after he confessed to killing Trayvon – and now he’s in custody.

For weeks after Trayvon was killed, authorities refused to arrest Zimmerman. We couldn’t believe that in 2012, public officials would turn a blind eye to our son’s killing. We couldn’t let that happen.

More than 2 million people joined our call for Zimmerman’s arrest. We are so much closer to justice with the decision to bring charges against our son’s killer. We feel less alone knowing that so many people stood with our family during this impossible time.

When Trayvon was just nine, he ran into a burning house to save his father’s life. He may be gone, but he is still our hero. We are so thankful to all of you who fought to honor his memory.

Thank you for standing with us, and with Trayvon.

– Tracy Martin and Sybrina Fulton

It was truly amazing to see so many of us come together and work so hard to push for a honest resolution to this whole thing.  Amazing and uplifting!!!

George Zimmerman Taken Into Custody (New Booking Photo)

Posted April 11, 2012 5:46 PM By Deirdre B Pride

I exhaled a sigh of relief.  We still have to watch a trial, but the struggle  is finaly over.  I’m going to adjust my blog back to it’s normal look, but I will still support the Trayvon’s family, watch and update you on any news as it comes.  Kudos to everyone that really got involved with the movement.

George Zimmerman has been taken into custody and will face criminal charges in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin, officials told NBC News.

Angela Corey, the special prosecutor appointed by Florida Gov. Rick Scott to re-examine the case, will announce what charge or charges she will seek about 6 p.m. ET, a law enforcement official told NBC News.

The nature of the charges wasn’t immediately known, the official told NBC News Justice Department correspondent Pete Williams, speaking on condition of anonymity. But because Corey previously announced that she wouldn’t take the case to a grand jury, first-degree murder is not an option.  He is being charged with 2nd degree murder.  He is expected to plea not guilty.

Corey’s office confirmed that a news conference would be at 6 p.m. ET in Jacksonville, Fla.

….. Just kidding.  It wasn’t like that at all.

Timbaland stopped by the Breakfast Club and the Aaliyah and Drake collaboration came up.  Timbaland says he hadn’t heard anything about it and he basically felt that Drake should step to both him and Missy before proceeding further.   We all know the close attachment Missy and Timbaland had with “Baby Girl,” but just as he puts it, they don’t hold legal rights to her music or usage of her name.  He doesn’t want Aaliyah’s image, name and music being used for sheer profit or gain. Check  out the video to hear Tim’s thoughts.

Hearing Aaliyah and Timbaland in the same sentence is expected at this point, but when Drake’s involved the conversation gets better.

Angela Yee asks Timbaland about Drake’s interest in recording a collaborative effort with Aaliyah. Timbaland reveals that he was unware that Drake wanted to do that but said: “… if he [Drake] do it [record music with Aaliyah], it should be with me, him, and Missy.”

Drake has not contacted Timbo about recording new music with Aaliyah, but technically, he doesn’t have to ask for permission and this is where it gets tricky. Timbaland loves Aaliyah, we know that, but if Drake were to record music sans Missy and Timb, it wouldn’t be a “crime” because Timbaland does not own the rights to her music.

“Well, see that’s the thing, I don’t own Aaliyah’s rights, that’s just my baby sister. I don’t own her masters, I can’t be the dictator of that…But I’m saying the best decision that the fans would want to see, it’s all three of us and not on a separate album; [and] it’s gotta be for charity. We gotta give back, it can’t be something to make money off of. I think that’s wrong, to try and make money off the dead.”

Drake, I hope you’ve heard the news and will reach out to Timb and Missy ASAP. But Timbaland, how did you know that I’d love a collab with all three of you?! Who told you?! Timbo, you don’t really have to tell me the answer because you obviously know music.

Zimmerman WILL Face Charges in Trayvon Martin’s Death

Posted April 11, 2012 2:58 PM By Deirdre B Pride

Neighborhood watch captain, George Zimmerman will face charges in Trayvon Martin’s death, according to the Washington Post.  Finally after 44 days we move a step closer to sending George Zimmerman under the jail.

Citing a law enforcement official involved in the case, the Post said Florida special prosecutor Angela Corey will announce as soon as Wednesday afternoon that charges will be filed against George Zimmerman, 28, for the shooting death of Trayvon Martin, 17.

The report was confirmed by CNN, who quoted an unnamed government official as saying that Zimmerman “will face charges, if he hasn’t already.”

It is unclear what charges he will face.

The story broke as the family addressed a crowd at the annual convention of the National Action Network, a civil rights organization founded by the Rev. Al Sharpton.

The family and their attorneys once again reiterated their push to get charges filed against Zimmerman.

“When you look at the history of this journey, it’s been 44 days and counting now,” said Benjamin Crump, an attorney for the Martin family. “All we’re asking for is an arrest so we know the wheels of justice are turning.”

Crump also said it was “troubling” that Zimmerman’s former attorneys, who announced Tuesday that they could no longer represent their client, had never met him face-to-face.

“The killer of Trayvon Martin is unaccounted for,” he said. “We are concerned that he’s a flight risk. We are very concerned that he will never be brought to justice.”

The sentiment was also shared by Rev. Sharpton.

“It is unheard of for someone to kill an unarmed innocent man and walk out of the police station,” he said. “Now we’re told 43 days later that [his attorneys] can’t even reach him.”

Attorney General Eric Holder also spoke at the event. He told a crowd that the Justice Department and FBI are still investigating whether Zimmerman will face federal civil rights crime charges for the shooting.

Martin, was shot and killed by Zimmerman, who thought Martin looked “suspicious” as he walked through a gated community. Zimmerman claimed he shot the teen in self-defense.

Police didn’t arrest Zimmerman because they said evidence on the scene matched his story.

Kush and Cream: Ice Cream Truck Driver Busted for Selling Weed

Posted April 11, 2012 10:25 AM By Deirdre B Pride

The Zig Zag man of Maryland has been busted for selling weed from an ice cream truck to teens and young adults.

After receiving a tip through Crime Solvers, Charles County sheriff’s deputies found bags of marijuana and a stash of cash in a truck operated by 20-year-old Alexander Hoskins, authorities said.

“Ice cream or marijuana, you can take your pick with this guy,” said Diane Richardson, of the Charles County Sheriff’s Office.

Police stopped the truck at Bayswater Court and Sheffield Circle. They found the marijuana and cash in Hoskins’s underwear.

He apparently had been dealing from the truck for some time, according to the Charles County Sheriff’s Office.

“We wish we got that call just a bit sooner so we could have found more drugs, but what we did find was significant enough to show that he had been dealing it, and for us, we’re removing a drug dealer off the streets,” Richardson said.

Hoskins was selling to teens and young adults through word of mouth, authorities said.

He was charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana.

Hoskins is out on bond and out of business, authorities said. He won’t be selling ice cream again anytime soon.
