Power Preview S1 Ep4 + Recap – 50 Cent Makes First Appearance (Video)

Posted June 24, 2014 3:06 PM By Deirdre B Pride
Fif Power

As Ghost continues to peruse his old flame Angie, Angie continues to investigate Lobus, trying to find out who his main distributor is.   Things take a bad turn as a customer tokes a line of bad coke in Truth’s restroom and it’s James to the rescue.  This leaves him considerably shaken about the whole thing.  Notice that he Ghost when he is in gangster mode and James when he is in family and good deeds mode.

After Angie gets done getting broke off, she hits the streets to get more info on Lobos, unknowingly closing in on Jamie.  Meanwhile, James decides he wants to work with the cops where his club is concerned.  He shares the idea with Angie and she still doesn’t tell him who she really works for.

Meanwhile, trifling ass Tasha finds out James made a withdrawal from their savings and she is furious.  She then goes to his office and goes through his books.  She maintains her trifling stance that with wanting the drug business to the be all for their family. Does anyone esle get the vibe that this bish is gonna turn hard when she finds out about Angie?

Fif makes his debut. Sean the driver goes to visit his father Kanan in prison.  We find out that Sean blew out his knee and is deemed  out of the baller business.  Kanan gives him a contact to who he can talk to when he can’t t talk to Ghost.  Ghost takes a particular interest in keeping Sean’s nose clean ans out of trouble.

Character reminder: Kanan: Hip-hop mogul Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson serves as one of the Executive Producers of Power and is also a cast member. 50 takes on the role of Kanan, Ghost and Tommy’s former boss, who took them under his wing years ago. Currently locked up on a sketchy drug charge, Kanan still maintains a heavy ear on the streets. He also remains a mentor to Ghost and an advisor to what he considers his organization. Kanan anxiously awaits his release from prison, and with it quickly approaching, the former kingpin plans to return to the streets in a grand fashion and reclaim what he rightfully deserves.

The drug gig get’s infiltrated once again and it’s revealed that the chick in the magenta sneaks is behind this bust too, but she is taking direction from an unknown source.  I think that is gonna be a huge reveal.  I think it’s Kanan, but I digress.  Tommy’s crazy ass wilds out and accidentally burns the guy that tried to rob them.  Before he dies he tells Tommy that one of their own guys sent him, Anabaro, but the Anabaro maintains it’s a lie.  Ghost lets him live a lil longer and decides to shut down until they can wrap their head around the whole thing.  Meanwhile, Tommy is trying to smash a particular blonde that works at Truth.

James announces to Truth staff to keep an eye out for the dealer and offer s up a sizable bonus for the person who infiltrated the dealer.   James literally playing with fire meets up with Angie and they share a kiss……lucky self.  He buys her this massive necklace and get Tasha some pity earrings as well.  Things talk scary turn when their baby girl chokes on the tail from the dolphin key-chain he bought for Angie and himself as a token of their….um whatever they’re doing.

I can’t remember if he told her that he was married with children.  Did he?

I’m glad they aren’t inundating us with celebrity appearances.  You know like this person and that person is at Club Truth every week. I guess it’s okay every once and awhile or even not at all.  What do you think?

Starz Renews 50 Cent’s ‘Power’ for Second Season

Posted June 11, 2014 4:20 PM By Deirdre B Pride

As long as they don’t leave me hanging like they did with Boss, I’m in for the long haul.  If you don’t already know, Power’ is that series to get into.  Starz seems to be stepping their game up and are becoming a must see network, but I digress.

Starz has already renewed the drama from executive producer Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson.  Hollywood Reporter reports that the season two order is for 10 episodes, up two from its freshman run.

The series, which bowed Saturday, revolves around James “Ghost” St. Patrick (Omari Hardwick), a wealthy New York City nightclub owner who caters to the city’s elite. He wants to build an empire and turn the club into a Fortune 500 business, but there’s just one problem: Ghost is living a double-life. When he’s not at the club, he’s the kingpin of the most lucrative drug network in New York, catering to a very exclusive clientele. His marriage, family and business all become unknowingly threatened as he is tempted to leave his criminal life behind and become the rags-to-riches businessman he wants to be most of all.

Production on season two will resume in September in and around New York as well as at Steiner Studios in Brooklyn.

Power got a solid start over the course of its premiere weekend, though the 462,000 viewers who tuned into the inaugural Saturday broadcast was nothing significant. Multiple Saturday and Sunday airings grossed more than 2 million viewers for Starz, with multiplatform sampling bringing in another 480,000 viewers. Starz, which is not beholden to the advertiser-favored adults 18-49 demographic, did point out that it’s concentration with the under 50 set was the strongest for a network original since flagship (and high ratings watermark) Spartacus. More than half ofPower’s weekend audience fell into the key demo.

Remember, I will be recapping each week.

OWN and Tyler Perry to Premiere ‘If Loving You is Wrong’

Posted June 5, 2014 6:28 PM By Deirdre B Pride

OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network has assembled the principal cast of the latest Tyler Perry drama series, the upcoming If Loving You Is Wrong (formerly Single Mom’s Club). Premiering in September, the new series, created, written, directed and executive produced by Perry,  follows the relationships of a group of husbands and wives that live and love on the same street. While the neighbors come from very different backgrounds, their lives are similar — raising children, dealing with exes, worrying about money and keeping romance in their relationships. But just below the surface — secrets, lies and deception threaten to destroy what they have built.

Amanda Clayton (John Carter) plays Alex who is married to Brad, played by Aiden Turner (All My Children). Together they have two children. The couple’s relationship seems solid, but a secret threatens to derail their marriage. Heather Hemmens (Hellcats) plays Marcie, a real estate agent married to Randal, played by Eltony Williams (24). Together they are struggling with Marcie’s inability to have children. Zulay Henao (The Single Moms Club) plays Esperanza, ex-wife of Edward, played by Joel Rush (Days Of Our Lives). She and Edward are parents of an eight-year-old girl. Esperanza is terrified what her ex will do when he finds out about her new boyfriend, Julius, played by Octavio Pizano (East Los High). Edwina Findley (Treme) plays Kelly, mother to a young son. Her boyfriend, and father to her son, has been away on a relief mission in Haiti for a year. April Parker-Jones (Jericho) plays Natalie, a single mother of three kids at home and one adult son in prison. She constantly struggles to pay the bills and her ex Lushion, played by Charles Malik Whitfield (Law & Order), is trying to love her while taking care of their son, Frank.

If Loving You Is Wrong, produced by OWN and Tyler Perry Studios, is Perry’s second drama series for OWN under his production deal with the network. The first, The Haves And The Have Nots, has been a breakout. It returned with new episodes May 27 to more than 3 million total viewers, becoming the network’s highest season premiere in history. Additionally, Perry’s OWN comedy, Love Thy Neighbor, returns with new episodes June 25.

I watched the first 5 min yesterday and  I got ready to post it, then something told me to check. It appears Starz went all out and posted the full first episode FREE. I’m getting a Nino Brown with a conscience kinda vibe from Ghost..

My take: James ‘Ghost’ St. Patrick has his childhood friend Tommy by his side who is his muscle.  Then there is his driver Sean, a snake who has his eyes on James’ wife Tasha, but he seems to be kinda struggling with it.  Watch what she does……SMMFH.   This bish Tasha is something else and is all for money.  As Ghost struggles with wanting out of the bad side of the game, wifey wants him to stay. LaLa plays Tasha’s best friend and she is totally enamored with Tasha’s life.  Watch for the ‘twists and turns’ and the major twist at the end.  Enuf out of me……without further adieu, I bring you James ‘Ghost’ St. Patrick and his $25,000 an hour growing empire.

From Executive Producer Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson comes the crime drama Power. James “Ghost” St. Patrick owns Truth, New York’s hottest, up-and-coming new nightclub for the city’s elite. When he’s not at the club, he’s kingpin of a lucrative drug network. Ghost wants to go legit but once you’re in, it’s hard to get out. Watch the first episode of Power for FREE now. Series premiere June 7 9PM ET/PT.

Sidebar: Omari is so damn fine……makes no damn sense.
