The iconic and Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin rushed to Beyoncé’s defense Tuesday, saying she thought Beyonce’ did a beautiful job with the National Anthem at President Obama’s Inauguration.
“When I heard the news this evening that she was pre-recorded I really laughed. I thought it was funny because the weather down there was about 46 or 44 degrees and for most singers that is just not good singing weather.”
She also said she “cracked up” at all the backlash. She said she would probably do the same thing next time.
“I wanted to give people the real thing and pre-recording never crossed my mind. Aretha goes on to say, “I just wished I could have sung the moment I got there. If I could have walked on immediately and sung it wouldn’t have affected my voice the way it did.”
“I think it’s optional really, it’s up to the artist. In 2009, I wanted everything to be live and on the real side for the moment as it actually happened. Those were my feelings for my performance, but having come face to face with 28, 22 degrees I am not surprised she pre-recorded.”
She also confessed to ABC that she lip-syncing years ago at a performance of the National Anthem when the Detroit Pistons took on the Los Angeles Lakers in Game 5 of the 2004 NBA Finals.
What’s my take you ask? I wish folks would find something else to do besides mess with this girl all the time. Seeing sooooo many people dragged about their performance and the weather, I can’t say that I blame her. One bad note and that would have been all she wrote for the girl. I don’t understand why people are taking sp personal. She did sing the song. Whitney did it and her rendition is beloved by many even though it was lip synced as well. All that said, Are you guys pumped for the Super Bowl yet?
