Joe Haden

Cleveland Browns’ corner back takes teen to her high school prom.

The standup guy says he didn’t go to his so he was just as excited about the whole thing himself.  Too cool!!

Independence High School Senior Joyce Grendel, 18, is putting on the last-minute touches before her prom date arrives.

She’s extra nervous because she asked him out.

“Yeah, yeah … I didn’t think that I had a chance,” she said.

Did we mention she asked out Browns corner back Joe Haden, via Twitter?

“It just said, ‘Hey Joe, would you consider going to my senior prom with me because my date backed out and didn’t go,’ ” Joyce said.

Within a few hours, he replied and said, “yes.”

Friday afternoon, Joyce, wearing a flowing purple dress, nervously waited with about a dozen friends, and family for Hayden to arrive at her Independence home.

Forget the limo, Haden pulled up in his white Lamborghini.

“Oh my God, oh my God. Mom, I’m scared,” Joyce said as Haden, wearing a grey suit,  stepped out of the car and walked over to greet her.

The couple posed for photos, did the corsage, both with nervous smiles.

“I am nervous, too. We were taking pictures with me and her family. I feel this is very legit, like I was getting ready, ‘Does this look cool?’ when I’m getting ready. I feel like I’m very legit. This is my prom, too,” Haden said.

Haden, 23, never got to attend his senior prom because he graduated early.

And in reality, this isn’t the first time he’s met Joyce and her friend Lacey, who accompanied them to the prom with her date.

“I knew her because she tweets me a lot, and she’s been a really good Haden Nation supporter. All my autographs, all my signings, she always shows up, and Lacey,” Haden said.

As for dad, this is one date he approves of.

“We met him last year. As a matter of fact, the kids went bowling with him downtown. You couldn’t find a nicer guy. I talked to him a little bit there. He’s not different than any of us; he’s just a quality guy,” Dave Grendel said.

The happy couple then got into Haden’s Lamborghini and drove to the World on the River in the Flats for their senior prom.

The pair appeared to have had a great time, exchanging tweets later that evening.
'"Thank you @joehaden23 for making today the best day of my life!" awwwwww i got u!' they wrote.

LeBron James Covers Sports Illustrated.  Inside he talks  about how he dealt with losing the NBA finals , his relationship with his father and Jay-Z.

The Akron native is featured on the cover of the current issue of Sports Illustrated, with the story “Meet the Rejuvenated and Revitalized LeBron.”

“I lost touch with who I was as a basketball player and a person,” James said. “I got caught up in everything that was going on around me, and I felt like I had to prove something to people, and I don’t know why. Everything was tight, stressed.”

James announced his departure from the Cleveland Cavaliers for Miami in a live announcement on ESPN in 2010.  With Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh by his side, James went to the 2011 NBA Finals, only to lose to the Dallas Mavericks.

“I couldn’t watch TV because every channel—doesn’t matter if it was the Cartoon Channel—was talking about me and the Heat. On the Cooking Channel it was like, ‘So we’re going to make a turkey burger gourmet today, and LeBron James failed!’” James said in his interview with writer Lee Jenkins.

James told Sports Illustrated that he stayed alone in his bedroom after the loss, and was occasionally visited by his mother, Gloria, and fiancé Savannah Brinson. He said he didn’t shave and “looked like Tom Hanks in Castaway.”

Sports Illustrated said that LeBron came across as a thoughtful individual during the interview. The two-time NBA MVP even spent time talking about his dad.

“My father wasn’t around when I was a kid, and I use to always say, ‘Why me? Why don’t I have a father? Why isn’t he around? Why did he leave my mother?’ But as I got older I looked deeper though, ‘I don’t know what my father was going through, but if he was around all the time, would I be who I am today?’” James said. “It made me grow up fast. It helped me be more responsible. Maybe I wouldn’t be sitting here right now.”

Despite the absence of his dad growing up, James did comment on a person he has come to turn to for advice: Jay-Z.

“He grew up in the inner city, in [Brooklyn’s] Marcy projects, hearing, ‘You’ll be a statistic, you’ll never make it out’. Now we’re sitting here in New Jersey, and he owns part of the [Nets]. He tells me, ‘Remember where you came from, what got you here and why you love this game so much.’”

The pregnant wife of a US Army soldier is furious after she found out via Facebook that her husband had been killed in Afghanistan. Ariell Taylor-Brown found out her military husband was killed in Afghanistan through a facebook update. He was Staff Sgt Christopher Brown, a 26-year-old father of two with a third baby on the way,

He died on April 3, when a bomb exploded while he was on patrol. He was just one week into his fourth deployment overseas. A member of his unit in Afghanistan told another solider, then that solider posted a message on Mrs. Taylor-Brown’s Facebook.

Mrs. Brown says, “It was a girl in his platoon. She wrote to me and told me to call her immediately.  She told me over the phone, right in front of my kids and I completely had a meltdown. She wasn’t supposed to, but I guess she took it on her own power to do it.  After everything was all said and done, it was a horrible way for me to find out.”

“The military handles that situation the way they handle it for a certain reason. You know, I could have hurt myself… (Widows) need somebody there. They owe you that respect and she took that away.”

Commanders at Fort Carson are investigating the incident and said if the solider broke protocol by notifying Mrs. Taylor-Brown before the Army was able to do it officially, she could face court-marshal.  Wow, what would make a person feel that it was their place to deliver such news to someone they didn’t even know.

I previously worked in the medical field and there were times where I would have to call family members about certain things, but never a death.  There was a specific person that handled death notifications. I still hated making the calls because I would have to tell them where I was calling from first.  I would always feel like I was scaring the person.   Then trying to make sure they were in a safe place when I made the call was a whole different story.  So, I can fully appreciate the way this was supposed to be handled.

Mrs. Brown goes on to say, “I don’t ever want her to be able to do that to another wife because she took that away from me.” She said she is 11 weeks pregnant and she was able to break the happy news to him before he deployed.  She says he wanted a son and she is sure she is carrying a boy.  “I just want him to know that his dad is a hero.”

I don’t know if it’s boredom due to the lockout or what, but fans and critics alike have recently raised the question of who would win in an one on one between Kobe and LeBron. When asked during an interview in Brittain, LeBron lays down his answer direct and to the point. He basically says that the game isn’t an one on one sport and he would not subject himself to the task. He also gives the vibe that he really doesn’t appreciated being inundated with the question over and over again. So with that said, “y’all can quit asking me that question.” I guess he told y’all. Wompity!!

A Cleveland-area mother of five who lost her in 2007 was given a new home by fellow church members. Like so many others during that time, Kizzy King and her five children struggled to make the ends meet. Because they never stopped being faithful and giving what they could when they could, the church surprised the family with a fully furnished home that is paid in full.
Pastor R. A. Vernon told the family in front of many church parishioners, “We love you; we love your mom, you guys have been faithful. You deserve your own bedroom and a place to sleep at night.”
While outside, Pastor Vernon spoke with reporters. He said, “I promised God eleven years ago when we started this church that if he gave us the resources, that we would always help poor people.”  I wish we heard stories like these everyday. Don’t you? Don’t you? We don’t always get to see do-gooders in action.

Y’all know me………. I say bring yo arse home where you belong.  I’m not quite sure on how he would be able to get back into basketball afterwards.  Plus, staying injury free is another story………….  It’s a big chance.   I just think it would be a cool way for him to come back home.  #comebackhome #lebronbrowns #forgivehim

Eff a dream.  Make this now.

Am I trippin’ y’all?…..anything to bring him home.

Update…………….

Thanks again to Ann Curry and 26 Seconds for understanding my passion. Thanks to Desiree for her hardwork and Akron for letting me give back to my community. Akron Stand Up!………..LeBron

The spotlight was on Akron as LeBron continues his quest to bring prosper to his hometown.    He’s giving the kids tools to help them stay focused on their education.  Preventing road blocks is the focus and laptop computers are one of the tools he feels will provide a stepping stone for the kids to excel in school.   He makes several prolific points on what is needed to provide support to children.  Check out the video for more.

Very good look!!!
