Does This Photo Make You Uncomfortable??? (Video & Pic)

Well does it? It certainly makes me very uncomfortable. They claim that the cake was “designed to highlight the issue of female genital mutilation.” GTHOH That then makes it insensitive as well as tasteless. I’m looking at this picture and all I see is a bunch of white that think it’s crazy funny to cut up a cake made into the depiction of a black woman dressed in African tribal gear. For them to feel that this was okay baffles the heck out of me.  I don’t think they never thought this would make it public….that’s what it is.

Lena Adelsohn Liljeroth, Sweden’s culture minister, had appeared at the Museum of Modern Art in Stockholm when she was invited to cut the cake which was designed like a naked African woman.

The Swedish minister cut pieces from the black cake, which had blood-red sponge and was designed to highlight the issue of female genital mutilation.
Despite the intentions of the bizarre cake, however, critics described it as a ‘racist spectacle’, and demanded Ms Liljeroth resigned for participating in the ‘tasteless’ event.

The Association for African Swedes said the cake was a crude racist caricature which ‘makes a mockery of racism’.

Kitimbwa Sabuni, a spokesperson for the group, told Swedish news agency TT: ‘To say that you did this for a good cause only makes the mockery of people who are victims of racism and of circumcision worse.’

Mr Sabuni told a Swedish newspaper Ms Liljeroth’s participation in a dubious event with cannibalistic overtones showed her ‘incompetence and lack of judgment’.

Makode Linde, the artist who came up with the cake, had placed his own head at the top of the cake and said it had been misunderstood.
The black cake, part of an exhibition on World Art Day, was intended as part of the artist’s project illustrating degrading stereotypes of black people through history.

Liljeroth, whose photograph cutting a piece of the cake was widely shown in Swedish media, said she understood why people would be offended by the incident.

She said in a statement: ‘I was invited to speak at World Art Day about the freedom of art and its right to provoke.

‘And then they wanted me to cut into the cake. I don’t review art, but I can very well understand that this whole situation was misunderstood.’

Zimmerman’s Lawyers to Use “Shaken Baby (Huey) Syndrome” in His Defense

George Zimmerman‘s lawyers will use the shaken baby syndrome as a reason for self defense against Trayvon Martin.  I hope the prosecutors are preparing their side as well. I wish they would arrest “Baby Huey.”  All of this media attention will no doubt give him a claim of an unfair trial.  What is taking so long?

SANFORD, Florida (Reuters) – “Shaken Baby Syndrome” was cited on Friday in the defense of George Zimmerman, the Sanford, Florida, man who shot and killed unarmed black teenager Trayvon Martin, in a case that has sparked a widespread public outcry.

Hal Uhrig, a lawyer and former Gainesville, Florida, police officer who recently joined Zimmerman’s defense team, cited in a TV interview the brain damage that can seriously injure or kill an infant.

His point, which has been made before, was that Zimmerman contends he shot Martin in self defense and feared for his life after the 17-year-old attacked him and began pounding his head into the concrete pavement of a gated community on a rainy evening in Sanford on February 26.

But Uhrig’s choice of words, and use of a recognized sign of child abuse to defend a 28-year-old man who killed a kid, seemed likely to raise more than just a few eyebrows.

“We’re familiar with the Shaken Baby Syndrome,” said Uhrig on the CBS This Morning program. “You shake a baby, the brain shakes around inside the skull. You can die when someone’s pounding your head into the ground.”

Apart from saying his client suffered a broken nose, Uhrig did not elaborate on the extent of any injuries Zimmerman actually suffered. But characteristic injuries associated with SBS, as Shaken Baby Syndrome is known, include bleeding in the brain. There are often no visible external signs such injuries have occurred.

Police have not arrested Zimmerman because the use of lethal force in self defense is permitted under the Stand Your Ground law approved by former Florida Governor Jeb Bush in 2005.

The lack of an arrest in the Martin case has triggered protests across the United States. A special prosecutor appointed by Governor Rick Scott is investigating to decide whether charges are warranted, amid allegations of racial profiling and initial police bungling of the case.

If it goes to trial, Unrig said he and his fellow defense attorney, would defend Zimmerman under the Stand Your Ground statute.

“He didn’t commit any crime,” Unrig said on CBS. “He was attacked, broke his nose, hit his head into the ground and he defended himself. That’s not against the law.”

A USA Today/Gallup poll published on Saturday showed that Americans are deeply divided across color lines in their opinions about Martin’s killing.

Seventy-three percent of blacks in the survey said they believed Zimmerman, a white Hispanic, would have been arrested if the person he shot dead was white.

Only 33 percent of whites agreed with that view while the majority of whites polled, 52 percent, said race made no difference in the case.

Bobby Brown Sister Blames Ray J for Whitney Houston’s Death on Dr Drew Claiming that he gave Whitney Bad Cocaine.Bobby Brown’s sister Leolah Brown made some explosive allegations against Ray J on HLN’s Dr. Drew Show Thursday night.

Brown sat down with Dr. Drew to talk about how she felt after she learned the toxicology reports revealed that Whitney Houston’s cause of death was accidental drowning and the combined effects of heart disease and cocaine use. There were other drugs found in her system that included xanax, marijuana, benadryl, Flexeril but they didn’t contribute to her death.Leolah, who appeared to be very distraught, revealed that she saw Ray J make a quick getaway from the hotel room after Houston’s death.

“I saw Ray J leave the hotel hiding his face that night,” Leolah told Dr. Drew. “I thought that was strange because he always wanted to be seen with her.”

Leolah said Whitney told her that she never had a relationship with Brandy Norwood’s brother, despite rumors that they were in a relationship. Bobby Brown’s sister revealed that Ray J was just a ‘runner boy’ for Whitney. She claims he was the person who allegedly got drugs for the pop legend.

“Whitney laughed when I asked were her and Ray J in a relationship,” Leolah said. “Whitney told me Ray J was her runner boy. Ray J is using Whitney Houston’s name.”Leolah also claims she signed papers for legal guardianship of Whitney’s daughter Bobbi Kristina years ago and she never signed new papers giving up that right. Bobby Brown’s nephew Kelsey Brown added that Pat Houston is manipulating the teen and they are very weary of her.

Jerod Brown, also Bobbi Kristina’s cousin, said he saw Whitney’s brother Gary and Pat come out of the singer’s room after her death with luggage and jewelry. He said it bothered him because as Bobbi Kristina was crying in the hallway they kept walking with the luggage without consoling her.
Leolah said Pat manipulated her way into the family and that Gary was married to Monique Houston at the time they met.

Progress Matters: Justice Department Joins the FBI and US Attorney’s Office in Trayvon Martin Case

I hope God can forgive me for the thoughts that I have about this man.  I keep thinking about how this could be my son or one of my little cousins.  This can not be their futures.  Things like this must be stopped in it’s tracks.  Right now people are growing angrier with each passing day that this man is free to roam as he pleases.

I heard that there was a militia group planning to make a citizen’s arrest on Zimmerman guilty behind.  Sounds like a modern day lynch mob that can easily escalate to more fatalities ob either side.  I wholly oppose their actions.  Don’t forget about PEACEFUL meeting organized by Al Sharpton on Thursday in Fl.  I’m hoping it will be televised on CNN or something.  I really wish I could show more support in that way.

Speaking out about the case of Trayvon Martin, the Rev. Al Sharpton said he is calling for the United States Justice Department to review Florida’s so-called “Stand Your Ground” law, which enables people to use deadly force against a person whom they perceive as a threat.

Meanwhile,the Department of Justice’s  Civil Rights Division, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida, and the FBI announced Monday that they have opened an investigation into the facts and circumstances of the shooting.

 

“The department will conduct a thorough and independent review of all of the evidence and take appropriate action at the conclusion of the investigation.  The department also is providing assistance to and cooperating with the state officials in their investigation into the incident,” the DOJ said.

The Stand Your Ground law is being invoked in the case of George Zimmerman, the neighborhood watch captain who shot and killed a 17-year-old black student who was walking through a gated community last month while carrying a bag of Skittles and a can of iced tea.

“People should not have the right, based on their imagination, to kill people,” Sharpton told BET.com.

In fact, the law has come under increasingly widespread criticism in the aftermath of the Trayvon Martin death. The law enables people who perceive they are being threatened to use deadly force, without first seeking to back away from the potential altercation.

Critics have complained it is a license for people to engage in vigilante justice. Since the legislation became law in Florida in 2005, 16 other states have adopted similar laws.

Emmanuel Cleaver II, the chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus, said, “This case compromises the integrity of our legal system and sets a horrific precedent of vigilante justice. Members of the Congressional Black Caucus stand together in the name of justice for Trayvon. As a nation we cannot, should not and will not ignore, Trayvon’s brutal murder and the inconceivable fact that his killer remains free.”
Sharpton pointed out that he himself was stabbed by a resident of the Brooklyn neighborhood of Bensonhust in 1991 after leading a march against police misconduct. Under the Florida law, Sharpton said, he would be entitled to shoot anyone who approached him at a rally whom he might perceive to pose a threat.

Sharpton said Zimmerman was not a police officer but instead a neighborhood watch volunteer, and Martin had no obligation to engage him in conversation.

“Travyon had no obligation whatsoever to stop for Zimmerman,” Sharpton said. “He might have reasonably thought he was someone trying to accost him.”

Zimmerman told police he shot Martin in self-defense, yet no arrest was made by the police in Sanford, Florida, the Orlando suburb where the shooting occurred.

The police have released the 911 recordings between their officers and Zimmerman. The recordings make clear that Zimmerman was told by a police officer not to trail young Martin. Despite those instructions, Zimmerman confronted Martin and an altercation apparently occurred with the young man being shot.

Sharpton, who is the head of the National Action Network, will lead a rally on Thursday in Sanford, calling for Zimmerman to be arrested.

“Zimmerman should be arrested,” Sharpton said. “All the police have to do is to determine probable cause for an arrest. They don’t have to find him guilty. And if the situation here doesn’t amount to probable cause, I don’t know what does.”

He continued, “This young man was not committing a crime. He was not trespassing. And he’s dead. The police don’t have to decide Zimmerman’s guilt in order to arrest him.”

 

A DOJ Community Relations Service will be in Sanford this week to meet with civil rights leaders, community leaders, and local law enforcement to address tension in the community.

Roseanne Barr  has filed official documents to become the Green Party’s nominee for President of the United States of America.

Barr — who has been waging a Twitter and Facebook grassroots, digital campaign — has just made it official.  She wants to carry the Green Party banner in the November election.

Barr says she’s sick of Democrats and Republicans, whom she believes are not working in the best interests of the American people.So what, you ask, is Roseanne pushing?  The answer is simple … pot.  She wants marijuana legalized and sold strictly domestically.   As for the whole Iraq thing … she’ll get back to us.

I’m pretty sure most of the folks trying to get weed legalized will be on board.  This would be trouble for Obama.    What will Willie Nelson and Snoop say about this? So would you vote for Roseanne?  So many questions on such a BIG surprise.

Judge Rules “White Only” Sign Must Come Down, But Landlord Wants Ruling Rescinded

Judge rules white only sign must come down, but landlord wants ruling rescinded.  Yes,in this day and age a landlord wants to enforce a white only rule in her establishment. A landlord wants the Ohio Civil Rights Commission to reconsider its ruling that she violated the law by posting a “white only” sign in her swimming pool area.

The case was initiated by one of her tenants who is white, Michael Gunn, and has a biracial daughter. The little went to the pool during a visit with her dad and was confronted by the landlord, Jamie Hein. She complained that the little girl’s hair made the water cloudy because of the chemicals she puts in her hair. I know right? Pure unadulterated ignorance.

A few days later the ignorant heffa posted the white’s only sign that you see above. Then the ignorant, poor excuse for a human being told ABC that she has no qualms against blacks. She said, “I don’t have any problem with race at all. It’s a historical sign.” Who does she think that she is fooling?

Outraged by the sign, Mr. Gunn found a new place to reside. He wrote in his complaint, “We were extremely upset and moved out on June 21, 2011, in order to not expose my daughter to the sign and the humiliation of the message.”  Poor baby.  I hate to imaging how that scene went down.

I know that’s right. I hope other tenants do exactly the same thing and leave this landlord in a struggle to stay afloat. Common strangers will teach her better than her parents did.

Yes, I’m heated; you should be too.

Whacked Whispers: Elementary Students Given Math Homework Referring to Slaves and Beatings

A Georgia elementary school is under fire for giving their 3rd grade students homework that referred to slaves and beatings. They claim that the questions were asked in an attempt to mix social studies with math. One ignorant question asked, “Each tree had 56 oranges. If eight slaves pick them equally, then how much would each slave pick?” The h*ll???

In another question they were asked, “If Frederick got two beatings per day, how many beatings did he get in one week?” Ummm, so are they talking about Fredrick Douglas? What kind of nonsense is this?  I’m not buying their Bee Ess excuse.

I see the person that compiled these questions as being racially insensitive or crazy. It sounds like these teachers are in need of racial sensitivity training…..and I mean pronto. What do you think?

Whispers: Detroit Police Stations to CLOSE 16 Hours Each Day ***Updated***

The Detroit Police Dept. has announced that they will close their police precincts for 16 hours each day.  Anyone who wants to file a report will have to do so online using their virtual precincts or wait until they’re open between the hours of 8am to 4pm.  They say that the city is strapped for cash and has to make cuts.  They are also laying off 100 police officers.  Yeah,  I’m livid too.  I have a lot of old friends there.

It sounds like this is some kind of scare tactic or stalemate.  It just sounds too dumb.  No police at night? Give me a break.  Where in the world do they do that at?  Don’t get me wrong I fully understand the seriousness of it all.

They’re trying to get a federal grant approved in order to stay afloat. If they get the grant of course they will rehire all the laid off police officers and operate the stations as they normally do.  This can’t possibly happen.

The city estimates it may run out of money within the next 90 days if immediate action isn’t taken.  I’m sure they will get their money.  I just wrote this because it so d*mn ridiculous.  Isn’t it???

Update:

Huffington Post paints a more realistic picture:  The police will actually be on the streets and not behind a desk.   They plan to eliminate numerous desk jobs and transfer police working in office positions to street patrols during night-time hours.  Now this sounds much.   Having the cops right there on the streets will eliminate a lot of the madness.   Other stations may or should adapt to the same procedures if it works out, but then that would eliminate jobs…..catch 22.  All this is suppose to go down on Monday, January 9,2012.

Harsh Much? Ad Uses Pics of Overweight Children in Quest to Prevent Childhood Obesity

There is a children’s anti obesity campaign that uses actual pictures of overweight children to get their point across.   It’s aimed at getting kids in Georgia healthy, but I’m sure they’re hoping it will be received nationally.  The Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta started this ad campaign that is suppose shock parents into getting off their hineys and help their kids to get fit.

At first glance, I felt it was waaaaaaay harsh and mean.  Once I listen to the actual children used in the campaign; I’m bit swayed to understand the campaign’s stance.  I watched Tamika’s video first.  Tamika looked uncomfortable and her mother sounds oblivious to her child’s health.   She has type 2 diabetes.  Unlike type 1 diabetes or juvenile diabetes; type 2 diabetes is brought on by obesity in ADULTS.  No child should have type 2 diabetes.  Even after seeing her video; I still feel that it was a bit harsh.

Then I moved the second and third videos.   The second one was so obvious that the mother’s issue became her child’s issue.  He asked his overweight mother why was he fat.  Well, it was plain to see that he was following in mom’s footsteps.  Totally not his fault. That mess was all his momma’s fault.  He’s eating just like she eats.

Lastly, I watch Jaden’s video.  He says all he does is play video games alone and doesn’t play with friends because all they do is tease him. His situation seems more of a cycle of things that are not so good for him….Sitting around playing video games most certainly leads to snacking.  Not to mention; he sounds clinically depressed because of his weight.  His whole thing seems like a vicious cycle.

In essence, I agree with being tough on the parent.  I’m just not into embarrassing the kid.  Embarrass the mother or father….clearly they are the ones that are culpable.  Well, what do you think?
