Sony Launches Online Casting Call

CULVER CITY, Calif., November 19, 2010 – Moviegoers and TV viewers can now get closer to their favorite projects than ever before with Sony Pictures Entertainment’s Face of the Fan®, a new initiative for virtual talent sourcing. By visiting www.FaceOfTheFan.com, users nationwide can participate in online casting calls and contests for Sony Pictures’ properties – turning today’s fans into tomorrow’s stars™.  With this ongoing program, crossing all of Sony’s platforms — film, television, and online – Face of the Fan will give the biggest fans a chance to get involved with Sony’s most popular franchises.

Face of the Fan launches with a casting call for Screen Gems’ and Lakeshore Entertainment’s successful action franchise Underworld, for which the filmmakers are searching for a fresh talent to play a pivotal role as a female teenager. Users from across the country can log onto the website, download select pages from a script to rehearse, and then upload their audition video and other credentials for submission. The submitted videos will then be reviewed by a panel of studio and production executives; selected participants may be contacted by casting agents for future roles.  The site will also help users spread the word and expand the conversation by providing them with the tools to share the programs with their family and friends through social networking.

“The Face of the Fan program enables us to source people from all over the country to find unknown talent and give them a shot at something they may not have otherwise been able to do,” said Clint Culpepper, president, Screen Gems.

Future Face of the Fan initiatives include a casting call for Screen Gems’ Mortal Instruments and a contest tied to Columbia Pictures’/Sony Pictures Animation’s highly anticipated 3D hybrid live-action/computer animated family comedy The Smurfs, as well as an upcoming contest from Sony Pictures Television for “Wheel of Fortune.”

The concept for Face of the Fan builds on several past initiatives from Sony Pictures, in which uber-fans were chosen to participate in various marketing-related activities. Whether meeting talent on the red carpet, interviewing them at Comic-Con, or becoming guest correspondents covering the movies, these contests allowed the winning fans to get close to actors and filmmakers like never before and share their experiences online with their friends, family, and other fans.

Commenting on the announcement, Dwight Caines, president, Worldwide Digital Marketing for Sony Pictures, said, “As new Face of the Fan initiatives roll out, we hope to provide a unique way to reward those people who show tremendous enthusiasm for their favorite movies or TV shows by giving them an opportunity to meet talent and filmmakers.”

Season 2 Basketball Wives’ Wild N Out Trailer + Pics

Yeah yeah yeah, I know I’m late, but better late than never.  I heard about this trailer a few days ago, but I just remembered to post it.

The ladies made the cover of Hype Hair

It appears the ladies are getting a little more comfortable with the camera.  Either that or Tami is a force to be reckoned with.  There has to be more to the food-stamp debacle than what it appears.  People don’t lose it because another person has never seen a food-stamp or claims they’ve never saw one anyway…………..Sigh!!  More deets on Tami HERE

Handcuffed Man Escapes in Police Car; Driving it w/His Knees…..He’s Still Missing

A wanted man carried out a Houdini-like escape in a stolen police car even though his hands were cuffed behind him and his legs in chains.

Jose Rodriguez was left alone in the back of the squad car by the dozen-strong team of detectives when he wriggled into the front and drove away using his knees to steer.

The red-faced officers tried to give chase but Rodriguez sped away and went into hiding.

When they found the abandoned vehicle they were stunned to see the leg irons and the handcuffs lying on the floor.

A massive manhunt swung into action and after a 24-hour search he was re-arrested – for good this time.

Rodriguez, 27, who was wanted in connection with the shooting of a man in the Bronx area of New York, was initially held at the Holiday Inn in Fort Lee, New Jersey.

A dozen police officers including three NYPD investigators hauled him out and put him in the back seat of a still-running car.

One officer sat in the front questioning him but was called away temporarily, leaving Rodriguez alone in the vehicle where he seized his moment.

‘At least one of the officers saw him still rear-cuffed and steering with his knees,’ admitted Paul Browne, chief spokesman for the NYPD.

The car was discovered some five miles away in and inside were the leg shackles and handcuffs which he had taken off using the spare key that was inside the vehicle.

This is soooo funny.  I’m glad they didn’t kill him.  I’m sure he’ll be found sooner or later.

Ex-Police Officer Sentenced in Oscar Grant Shooting

t1larg.bart.gi.jpg

He was sentenced to 2 years in prison for shooting Oscar Grant to death.  He was also granted 292 days of time served. Which ultimately gives him a little over a year from now.  You may recall that there was rioting after he was acquitted of second-degree murder and voluntary manslaughter this past July.

I still don’t know how the heck he didn’t at least get convicted of voluntary manslaughter. Instead he was convicted for involuntary.  The video showed he clearly volunteer to shoot an unarmed and handcuffed man.  He says he thought it was a taser gun.  He had no reason to tase him and tasers and guns have a different feeling in the hand. So whatever.

He was initially released on $3 million bail.  How does a Bart cop do that?  Sounds like he has friends on the high end of things.

Los Angeles, California (CNN) — The former transit police officer convicted of involuntary manslaughter in the killing of an unarmed man in Oakland, California, was sentenced Friday to two years in prison.

Johannes Mehserle will get credit for the 292 days he’s already spent behind bars since he was charged in the shooting of 22-year-old Oscar Grant on an Oakland, California, train platform on January 1, 2009.

Mehserle told a judge before sentencing Friday that he would be willing to go to prison if the sentence made his city and family safer.

“I shot a man,” he said. “I killed a man. It should not have happened.”

Alex Alonso, a writer for StreetGangs.com, said Mehserle appeared to weep at times while reading his apology to the judge. He seemed to avoid looking at Grant’s family, Alonso said.

Mehserle, dressed in an orange jail jumpsuit, was shackled by chains around his waist linked to cuffs on his arms and legs, Alonso said.

“I wish I could bring Oscar Grant back,” Mehserle said.

Grant’s mother, Wanda Johnson, asked Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Robert Perry to impose the maximum 14 years in prison. She and four other family members who spoke at the sentencing hearing called Mehserle “a murderer.”

Prosecutors asked for prison time, while the defense argued for probation.

The trial was moved from California’s Alameda County to Los Angeles because of pre-trial publicity.

The jury acquitted Mehserle of the more serious charges of second-degree murder or voluntary manslaughter.

After the verdict in July, police in downtown Oakland arrested dozens of angry protesters and issued a variety of charges, including failure to disperse, resisting arrest, burglary, vandalism and assaulting a police officer. The city will have extra officers on hand Friday in case they are needed, said police spokeswoman Holly J. Joshi.

“We are not anticipating anything negative happening and are prepared to facilitate a peaceful protest,” Joshi told CNN. “We understand that the community feels strongly about this tragic event and absolutely want to respect their right to free speech and assembly. We will not, however, tolerate any violence or destruction of businesses or personal property.”

Community groups have been granted permission to rally at a plaza, an Oakland spokeswoman said.
