BET Renews “The Game” and “Lets Stay Together”

BET has renewed its comedy series The Game for a sixth season and the Queen Latifah-produced,  Let’s Stay Together for a third.

The pickups, which I hear are for 22 episodes, are not official yet and are expected to be announced at BET’s upfront presentation on Thursday. Additionally, I hear that BET is mulling a renewal of freshman comedy Reed Between The Lines. BET, whose current foray into scripted comedy series started an year and a half ago with the pickup of The Game after it had been canceled by the CW, is quickly expanding its portfolio. In addition to the three existing original series, the network is in pre-production on hourlong pilot Being Mary Jane starring Gabrielle Union and sitcom Young Man On Campus starring

Jacob Latimore, which originated as an episode of Reed this past season. In growing its scripted business, BET has relied on two key players, Mara Brok Akil, creator/executive producer of both The Game and Being Mary Jane, and Jacque Edmonds, creator/executive producer of Let’s Stay Together and Young Man On Campus and executive producer of Reed. After launching on BET with staggering 7.7 million viewers to rank the top-rated ad-supported sitcom broadcast in cable history, The Game‘s most recent season premiered with impressive 5.3 million viewers. Let’s Stay Together‘s second season opened with 3.5 million viewers vs. 4.4 million for the series premiere, while Reed premiered behind the 2011 Hip-Hop Awards with two back-to-back episodes averaging 3.3 million and 2.9 million viewers, respectively.

Well I’m glad, are you?  I wasn’t a fan of STT last season, but this season it’s a lot different. I have really gotten into it.

Legal Whispers: Video – The Game Involved in a Street Fight……

……but he kept it Hollywood gansta.  Is this dude serious right now?  He was just sued for beating the brakes off one of his relatives.  He must like giving his money away.

The Game has been accused of punching a man in the face in front of a Hollywood nightclub early Tuesday morning … law enforcement sources tell TMZ.   We’re told the rapper has been named in a police report … filed by a man who claims he was attacked by The Game in front of Colony nightclub.

TMZ obtained footage of the incident — which shows The Game engaged in a physical altercation … but it’s unclear if the rapper actually threw a punch.  After the initial skirmish, a fired up Game can be seen yelling in frustration — and was restrained by his friends.

We’re told the LAPD is investigating the incident … but no arrests have been made. So far, no word from The Game himself — but people close to the rapper tell us he denies hitting anyone.

Video: The Game Speaks on the Jimmy “Henchman” Rosemond’s Arrest

The Game says something to the effect that we haven’t even seen Bin Laden’s body, so how are you gonna believe what they’re saying about Jimmy? He totally stands behind the guy and implies set up…….ride or die.

Me: I don’t know Game…… the situation with Bin Laden and Jimmy Henchman are two totally different entities. One has absolutely nothing to do with the other. I want to see that whole thing play out. A lot of people want to know what’s up with that. I’m curious about his statement that he possession of Pac’s jewelry somewhere. You don’t say stuff like that without backup do you? If he has the jewelry from that night, that would be a start to finding our what the real is if you ask me.

In Case You Missed It: “The Game Death Becomes Her” S4E11

Unless dude has a change of heart or dies, Malik’s career as a Sabre is a done deal.

I hope Tasha’s new dude isn’t playing games. I guess that would be a lot to fake just to hang out.

Season finale next week.

Video: The Game S4E5 – Men in Crisis

I had planned to post these every week, but my source has other ideas.  Just keep in mind that I will post when the movie/tv download spot that I use does.   I haven’t watched it yet, so I can’t elaborate, but you know I will.   So check back later for my feedback.  Just trying to keep you informed.

In Case You Missed It: “The Game” S4 E3 – Full Episode + Still Making a Killing in Ratings

SMH at this episode..Melanie seems like she’s getting the big head.  As I said in the first review, Malik is so headed to hit rock bottom    I’m gonna do this every week unless they put the breaks on my resources.  Enjoy!!

Update…………..

Ha…..I bet it’s some CW folks somewhere laid out in the fetal position; sucking their thumb; crying and begging for their momma’s  right now……Excuse my flair for the dramatics, but NY Post broke down the schematics as follows:

After debuting to a network-record 7.7 million viewers Jan. 12, then snaring nearly 6 million viewers Jan. 19, “The Game” has upped BET’s profile and given the network some all-important watercooler cachet.

Me: The difference between 7.7million and 6 million is probably Tivo and DVR users.

Not bad for a show that was dropped by The CW in 2009 after three seasons, when the network veered away from sitcoms.

“This was a show that should never have been cancelled, but The CW had nowhere to put it,” says industry analyst Marc Berman of AdweekMedia.

NEW LIFE: “The Game” stars (L-R) Coby Bell, Hosea Chanchez, Wendy Raquel Robinson, Tia Mowry, Pooch Hall and Brittany Daniel.

“When it was on The CW, it always built [an audience] from its lead-in. It wasn’t a humongous hit — it averaged around 3 million viewers a week — but if The CW was still in the sitcom business, ‘The Game’ would still be on the air there.”

In the dramedy series — spun off from “Girlfriends” – Tia Mowry stars as Melanie Barnett-Davis, a medical resident who’s married to Derwin Davis (Pooch Hall), a pro football player for the (fictional) San Diego Sabres.

Berman says BET made “one of the smartest moves I’ve ever seen a network do” by swooping in and grabbing “The Game,” then tweaking its format by fast-forwarding the plotline two years into the future.

“The advantage [BET] had was that people were familiar with the show,” he says. “And BET has a niche audience and caters to the African-American community — and that was the audience watching The CW sitcoms.”

BET Networks Chairman/CEO Debra Lee says BET also made several conscious marketing decisions to raise “The Game’s” profile and let people know where it could be seen.

“When we started to think about the marketing campaign behind ‘The Game,’ it made sense to give the biggest scripted launch on our network the biggest overall platform on our network, which is the ‘BET Awards,’ ” she says.

“We started with a teaser spot with the cast of ‘The Game’ during the ‘BET Awards’ and then began to leverage every major program to deliver the message about the return of ‘The Game’ — from ‘Black Girls Rock!‘ to the ‘Soul Train Awards.’

“In addition to that, we did the traditional off-channel tactics such as billboards, bus buys and radio spots. We also did a fantastic job of leveraging the show’s fan base on social media sites.”

“The CW’s loss is BET’s gain,” says Berman. “It’s a win/win situation and I commend them for it.”

Updated****Video-The Game’s Season Premier: Predictions and Review + The Game Kicked Butt in Ratings

I loved it.  I was pleased with everything.  I was also impressed on how they age everything 2 years to sync with their hiatus. Someone started a #hashtag #TheGamePredictions and I had to get in on it if only for a moment.   I will continue the this post on that note.  I predict and welcome utter drama.

•Girl Melanie has written a check that her arse can’t cash. Yes, there’s definitely trouble in paradise.  I think they’re gonna write her pregnancy into the show and or  Janay just may get her man back.  I kinda wish they would have left them happy for a bit, but that’s no fun huh? Do you still wonder who told Derwin about McHottie? Back to the break up to makeup drama.

•Malik is scandalous as h*ll and is doomed to hit rock bottom.  He seems to be spiraling out of control.  Abusing alcohol and sex.  The boy is out of control.  My twitter friend @Daisy5730, predicts Tee Tee will tell it all and I have to agree.  Poor Tee Tee.  Why did they give a him a chicken wing truck?

•I don’t know what the heck is up with the Pitts.  SMH at Jason pullin’ a Mel Gibson with the pack of Eskimos remark.  Their story line can use a little something, but I can’t quite put my finger on it.  There will be some ish popping off I’m sure.  Kelly Pitts is mad and evil as h*ll. SMH at her show “Ex-Football Wives.”  Sounds familiar?  Ms. Brit Brat seems like she maybe a more prevalent figure in the Pitt family.  They didn’t age the hell out of her for no reason.  BTW, do you guys think Kelly will spill the beans about the steroids?

•My girl Tasha Mack just can’t get right when it comes to men.    I was shocked to see Terrance aka Donte’ and and I was also shocked to see him rockin’ Tasha world.  Those kisses were serious.  I think he’s trying to get at Malik through Tasha to take him down.  Rick Foxx is suppose to return so maybe he’ll and stir up things.  Not sure about her being scared of Kelly.  So not likely.

All in all The Game is back and I’m happy.  The writers get major muahs…….  I just hate that we will be cut down to 30 min. each week.  Way to keep us on the edge of our seat, but I like it.  Lovin’ how damn near everybody is ridin’ dirty.

BTW, I gave “Let’s Stay Together” their 15min and I just couldn’t get into it.  The following tweet bout sums it up:

I died…………..hear me?

Updated.……………..The Game had 7.7 million viewers last night.  Let’s Stay Together held on to some of that audience with 4.4 million.  The advertisers were plentiful in case you didn’t notice.  They actually had premium ad sponsors.  I know this because they kept tickin’ me off with all the commercial breaks…….Make that money BET and don’t forget to keep us happy in the mean time.

I have the full video, but it’s too big to upload.  Try back in about an hour.  I’ll put it up in it’s entirety.  I have to put on my techy hat and install a new player.

What did y’all think?
