Techie Whispers: Samsung Unveils Phone Watch with Camera “Galaxy Gear” Smartwatch
I can definitely get into this. Not to mention, they are cheaper than some smartphones. I knew that would grab your attention read on Whisperers.
As Apple prepares to launch the “iWatch,” which was trademarked in July, Samsung Samsung Electronics unveiled Galaxy Gear. It is a wristwatch that can be used for making phone calls, taking photos and other things.
The device features a 1.63-inch screen, a 1.9-megapixel camera, and battery life of about 27 hours.
The Gear goes on sale later this month at a price of $299. It will be able to connect wirelessly via bluetooth with the company’s new Galaxy Note 3 device, which was also introduced today, 9/4/2013.
No word on if it’s waterproof, but I highly doubt it is due to it’s wireleess/bluetooth capabilities.
J.K. Shin, Samsung’s co-chief executive and head of mobile business, told Reuters:
“We had smartwatch-type products before, but they were mainly for making phone calls. What’s different with the Gear is it’s got far more useful functions. Its usability has increased significantly and the design is not bulky,”
Samsung also unveiled the latest version of its Galaxy Note smartphone-tablet hybrid — often referred to as a “phablet.” The new Note boasts a slimmer profile, a bigger screen at 5.7 inches, faster processing and longer battery life.
Samsung made the announcements live at an event in Berlin and streamed it to Times Square.
Techie Whispers: Doorbell with Camera That Sends the Video to Your Phone
There’s a new app that lets you know exactly who’s at your front door and it works when you’re not at home.
The app, called iDoorCam, works with a tiny camera mounted to a doorbell-like button.
When a visitor presses the bell, it activates the camera so the owner can decide to answer the call, or reject it, depending on who the visitor is.
The iDoorCam app is free for iOS and Android tablets and phones, but only works with the iDoorCam device that costs £105.
It replaces the doorbell button and connects to Wi-Fi before sending the alert to a mobile phone.
The device itself includes a camera, speaker, microphone, LED light, infrared LED (night-vision) and a motion sensor.
I love this need this and gotta have this. This is one of the slickest things I’ve seen in awhile!!! Whisperers, what do you think?
